Agency Mission Statement:
The Hawaii Centers for Independent Living (HCIL) is a statewide, non-profit agency dedicated to ensuring the rights of people with disabilities to live fully integrated in the community with equal opportunities and choices in life.

Funded Program:
Independent Living Services: The independent living program is to help those served to live independently in the community. By providing services and information to consumers in regards to housing, the hiring of personal assistants, and gaining independent living skills, allowing consumers to exercise personal choice and decision making and become better advocates for themselves.

Client Outcome Story:
A consumer with a developmental disability lost his benefits due to new qualifications standards. I advocated for him with other agencies and supported him throughout a court appeal. He won the appeal and now gets 40 hours of Personal Assistant services a week which enables him to live independently.
