Funded Program:
Alternatives to Violence - Youth Service Program - Big Island: provides a comprehensive range of Domestic Violence Intervention Services aimed at increasing victim safety, minimizing effects of violence on victims, and reducing the offender's level of risk and use of violence. These services are provided to adult and juvenile offenders, ordered by Family Court, as well as victims, and child and adolescent witnesses to violence. Clients of both genders, including same sex partners are accepted for services. The Youth Service Program provides Anger Management services to youths who commit an act or acts of violence including patterns of assult, controlling behavior, physical, sexual and/or psychological abuse towards an intimate partner, including same sex partners, and a non-intimate family member or unrelated individual. The philosophy of the program is to provide the youth with the knowledge of the nature and dynamics of violent behavior and teach them how to resolve problem issues with non-violent methods. In addition, the youth is expected to take responsibility for their violent behaviors and not to blame others.
Domestic Abuse Shelter - West Hawaii: CFS' Domestic Abuse Shelter Program provides victims and their families with a safe haven where there is access to temporary shelter, provision for basic needs (food, clothing, personal care items, etc.), supportive counseling services, and services for children. The philosophy of the program is to provide a safe and healthy environment in order to assist victims of domestic violence to gain self-esteem and overall self-determination.
Sexual Abuse Treatment Services - Big Island: provides comprehensive services for families and individuals who have experienced intra-familial sexual abuse. Services are provided to child and adult victims, non-abusive parents, alleged juvenile and adult offenders, and siblings. Treatment is provided through individual, dyad, family therapy and an extensive group program. Groups are provided for teen victims, pre-teen victims, siblings, non-abusive parents, offenders and alleged juveniel offenders as indicated. Treatment services are offered to each available family member and are based on the disgnostic assessment and service plan determined at intake. The program model emphasizes work with the entire family, offering a spectrum of services depending on needs and number of clients. In general, treatment is expected to be long-term in nature in as much as the problems are severe, complex, and of long etiology.
Alternatives to Violence - Youth Services Program Client Outcome Story: After five and a half months, CO has demonstrated he is using the anger management skills he has learned, is problem solving and actively listening to others and communicating his feelings in a non-abusive manner. CO is working on attracting healthy relationships into his life. He feels support from his mother and friends. He was successfully discharged from the Youth Services Program.
Domestic Abuse Shelter - Client Outcome Story: A women with three minor children who withnessed domestic violence by the husband sought shelter. She developed a safety plan and received education on co-dependency, parenting, healthy relationships, and the effects on children who witness Domestic Violence. Case management provided her with the necessities to transition to a safe home by assisting her in obtaining food stamps, childcare and household items.
Sexual Abuse Treatment Services - Client Outcome Story: When an eight-year old daughter disclosed that step-father sexually molested her, the family was referred to SATS. He took responsibility and engaged in the Offender treatment. The mother is learning to protect the blended family of six children through, understanding family dynamics, and holding together the family with love and nurturing as supported by the therapist.
