Agency Mission Statement:
Providing quality care for elders and challenged adults and support for their families.

Funded Programs:
Hilo Adult Day Center: provides a safe, socially active daytime environment for aging elders and disables adults needing services regardless of their ability to pay; approximately 50% of our elders are in the just above-poverty level group and do not qualify for Medicaid which will pay for adult day care. This program keeps our elders living at home as long as possible with dignity and allows caregivers, respite and continued employment. The active programs provide for dignity and self worth, daily mental stimulation and physical activity for those who are in the last years of their lives.

Senior Helpers: provides in-home assistance to home-bound aging elders and disabled adults needing services regardless of their ability to pay (as much as possible). This program addresses safety and cleanliness in the home, thus providing the opportunity to be able to live at home as long as possible. Services provided include chore care, meal preparation, personal care, transportation and companionship.

Client Outcome Stories:
Hilo Adult Day Center:  JK, 85, male, was returning from hospital, depressed, not able to walk well. Wife enrolled him, he started immediately. A couple months later, walking had improved, happy to attend, definitely happier as he doing better; now, one year later, wife receives respite while he attends four days per week and enjoys himself.

Senior Helpers: Male, 79, gets some in-home chore care (is a hoarder). Referred by SFS for need, initially afraid would have to leave home. Very positive outlook on life and very happu to be living at home. Rides his bicycle and picks up rubbish along roadways. Appreciates the services, calls to thank Senior Helpers after they have come each time.
