Agency Mission Statement:
The Hawaii island HIV/AIDS Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting those affected by HIV/AIDS to maximize their quality of life, and to ending the spread of HIV. We also utilize the lessons learned in the HIV epidemic to care and advocate for others in the fight against related diseases.

Funded Program:
Case Management & Prevention Services for HIV+ Women: Provides the services necessary (such as acquisition and utilization of health services, dealing with sexuality issues and negotiations skills) to these women to allow them to consistently practice HIV prevention in their daily lives because they and their families are healthy physically, mentally, and emotionally. Part of the health care plan developed for HIV+ women is a prevention plan, undertaken with Case Managers, as no other program is dedicated solely to HIV+ women.

Client Outcome Story: A new client came to us last year, referred by an OB/GYN. She was non-English speaking and 7 months pregnant. She came to the doctor late in her pregnancy and when blood work done it was determined that she was HIV+. Thi created great risk to her personally and the possibility of her child being born with HIV. Due to the aggressive work of the care team the woman's health was stabilized, she immediately began treatment for her HIV, the OB/GYN team were able to follow protocol for the safe delivery (surgical delivery of the child) and provide specialized medication for the child at birth and for the first 6 months of his life. The child was born HIV negative, and is so today, 8 months later. The mother's health is stable and she and her child are thriving due to this program. Additionally, she learned how to prevent transmitting this disease to her husband.
