Agency Mission Statement:
All citizens should have the opportunity to live, participate in, and contribute to their communities. Through specially designed services and settings, MHK helps those in Hawaii who are in mental distress, emotional crisis or recovering from serious mental illness achieve their optimum level of recovery and ability to function in the community.
Funded Program:
Residential Rehabilitation Services: The intent of our program is to provide decent, safe and affordable residential housing to adults with severe and persistent mental illness and community-based services to enhance independence and promote recovery depending on individual and changing needs. Recovery and restoration are the objectives. The residential services directly address the ultimate goals of MHK of providing persons with psychiatric disabilities opportunities to recover, establish roles in the community, develop personal support networks and enjoy an improved quality of life.
Client Outcome Story: When he first entered our PATCH Place house in Hilo, Randall, like so many of our severely mentally ill consumers, was homeless and lacked the skills needed to cope with the multitude of challenges he faced in his life. During his stay, Randall successfully reached all of his service plan and life skills goals, did not require psychiatric hospitalization, and eventually transitioned to living independently in his own apartment. He is currently employed, maintains his mental and physical health, and has developed positive social networks. In his own words: “Mental Health Kokua provided me with a safe place to get my life in order…I would have been lost without the help…I’m 100% satisfied and grateful to the MHK staff.”
